Bay Room, Manor Gardens Centre
This workshop is for women to discuss how they feel about their vagina and sex, following female genital mutilation (FGM). Café V will be a supportive and open atmosphere and we intend for this two-hour session to be guided very much by the women who attend it. You can ask questions about sex after FGM or share your experiences, and we will provide advice on the questions you ask. We will also discuss penetration after FGM and whether it’s possible to orgasm and how.
As with all our workshops, this will be fun, relaxed, and a good space to make friends too. We will give practical tips on any body image issues that may have developed in the years following FGM, and some simple exercises for feeling more positively about your vagina. You don’t have to participate in the discussion if you don’t want to, you’re welcome to attend to just listen and take advantage of the free food!
There are two parts to this Café V session: the first part will be a discussion forum (from 11am until 12.30pm), then we will have an hour long lunch break (we provide the food!). The second part involves creating fanny-positive art (from 1.30pm until 3pm), where you can draw your vagina in a colourful and positive way. We provide the art materials!
This workshop is facilitated by My Body Back Project board member Leyla Hussein who is a passionate anti-FGM campaigner and a psychotherapist, artist Jo Harrison who has used her creative skills as part of many feminist campaigns she’s been involved with over the years, and My Body Back Project founder Pavan Amara who started the Café V workshops one year ago. If you want to attend, please register by using the ‘booking’ form below. Looking forward to seeing you there!
